One’s cultural identity influences many aspects of one’s life, including beliefs, values, languages spoken, and traditions. The Anishinaabe cultural identity of the characters is evident throughout the novel, and it allows/encourages the characters to speak their traditional language and practice their traditions. The characters in Moon of the Crusted Snow, draw upon their Anishinaabe heritage and traditions to deal with an unexpected crisis by utilizing traditional knowledge of survival skills, and by valuing their community.
