When he was younger, he performed surgery on animals, and is even believed to be the cause of the death of one of his friends, but as he grew older, he became even more interested in the human body, and spent a lot of his time in the morgue working on cadavers to learn more of their anatomy. In the year of 1885, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he put his medical knowledge to use by working in a pharmacy. This is where he used the alias which we all known him as today, Dr. Henry H. Holmes. Eventually, he had taken over the pharmacy business, and is rumoured to have killed the owner in order to take the business. He soon started construction on what is now the famous “Murder Castle”. This is perhaps why H.H. Holmes became so famous, as the three-story construction was a very elaborate house of horrors. During the construction of this building, H.H. Holmes would continuously switch out construction crews so that no one would for sure know the layout of the building, except for himself.
