Morrie Schwartz- a man who was terminally ill yet had the wisdom everyone needs to hear. Mitch Album was a student of Morrie. Morrie not only taught sociology but life lessons. It was a normal day and Morrie went to the doctor because he had been having some issues, but not thinking much of it. Little did he know, he would figure out he had ALS. ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is an incurable disease which deteriorates muscles over time. Eventually, you are unable to walk, move your body, and, Morrie’s favorite activity, dance. Mitch discovers his previous teacher has ALS and knows that he needs to reconnect before it’s too late. Morrie is known for his intelligence and he says, “The culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves. And you have to be strong enough to say if the culture doesn’t work, don’t buy it.” (42) The …show more content…
The more money you have, the better off you are, it’s that simple… at least that’s what we have been taught. From Morrie’s perspective, this is entirely incorrect. Money shouldn’t separate how society looks at one another. The richer people commonly look down upon those who are poorer. Instead, they should be realizing how they are more fortunate than those who don’t have the same amount of money. The poorer people will always be striving to be someone richer and have more money. In the end, there will always be someone with more money than you and you’ll never be fully satisfied. In the society we have, everyone wants the luxurious house, fast sports-car, and to be able to go on the best vacations. To be able to walk along the beach with no worries. Waking up at 8 am to grab a hot cup of coffee and take a stroll. The sand coming between your toes and the waves splashing on your legs. Looking out into the clear blue ocean you happen to see a fish swim by. Catching a glimpse of the bright colors of the sunrise, without a worry in the world; that is what people strive to
