My father has illuminated my life with his childhood stories, painting vivid pictures of the hardship and rugged environment in which he had to endure, subsequently shaping him into the resilient individual he is today. Yet, amidst the challenges, it pushed him to pursue greater endeavors towards the elusive “American Dream”. Growing up, I often found myself captivated by the roles of my father’s struggles and triumphs. His resilience in the face of adversity and unwavering determination to carve out a better future deeply influenced my own aspirations. Like him, I too have been drawn to the promise of the American Dream, a promise of opportunity and independence.

As individuals pursue independence and strive to achieve their dreams, they often encounter pivotal decisions in adolescence and adulthood: whether to follow the conventional path of the “American Dream” or embark on the journey of the path less traveled.

Despite their diverse backgrounds, both confronted monumental challenges in pursuit of their dreams. Even when confronted with the harsh realities of uncertainty, neither McCandless nor my father wavered in their pursuits. If anything, it pushed them harder to succeed.
