“There are depths of thousands of miles which are hidden from our inquiry. The only tidings we have from those unfathomable regions are by means of volcanoes, those burning mountains that seem to discharge their materials from the lowest abysses of the earth.”(Oliver Goldsmith) This quote hits it right as volcanoes cover up the remains of history as we know it. It’s scary to me that a volcano can be just there peacefully minding its own business and then Bam! the volcano randomly explodes and destroys everything in its path. One of the most recognized volcanic eruptions is from Mount Vesuvius covering Pompeii. This is where the magic begins, thus let us dive right into the madness of this volcano that seems to be the most recognized …show more content…
There are large convection currents in the lithosphere that comes up through earth crust, which are the mid ocean currents. With the gravity you have the mid ocean ridges that bring up new material from the lithosphere, hence then the older material sinks from the forces of gravity. Due to the sink of the material the plates then move, according to the article "What You Should Know about Plate Tectonics." From the movement of the plate tectonics you get the three main boundaries as you see in the next picture …show more content…
According to the article “Pompeiians Flash-Heated to Death—"No Time to Suffocate"” It was thought that a majority of the people died by the gas of the volcano when in reality they died by the immense heat and traumatized from the eruption. For me, hearing that was very interesting because I too thought it was from gas since there was so much soot and ash from the eruption its-self. It makes you really think that you can’t just really on what people say without having researched heavily on your topic. From that we have the eruption of Mont Vesuvius that spread towards Pompeii with the flow of lava and the air that was unhealthy to even breathe the ash that covered the sky blocked out the rays of the sun that so brightly shines. An interesting fact that caught my eye was how fast the lava and ash was traveling down the volcano. According to the article “Pompeii: Portents of Disaster” it was flowing about 100 km an hour. That to me is really fast, yet to just imagine that happening is mind boggling. The temperatures were very hot indeed, which from that is why the remains of the bodies are kept so fine looking. With the temps rising, according to the article "Pompeiians Flash-Heated to Death-"No Time to Suffocate"" the lava had temps of 570 degrees Fahrenheit, which is why people died so quickly. The people of Pompeii were in grave danger from this horrific
