To begin with, there was a lot of rising tension between the two different ethnicities. This rising conflict came from the ethnocentric attitude that each ethnicity had. Hutus were originally there in Rwanda, until Tutsi refugees fled there as well. The Hutus already being in an economic crisis, did not like this at all. As the movie starts, Paul and his family start to see more and more violence occur. Paul, uses his connections and bribery to keep him and his family safe.
This movie fit right into our lessons in class, for me it made what he was teaching us on paper, more visible and understandable. We were learning about ethnic conflicts, and this movie was a perfect example of just that.

It was very graphic and eye opening to see how these people were treated only based on their ethnicity. My favorite part was when the church group came to get on the bus, and they found that they would have to leave their “colored” family behind. It amazed me how they would just leave their family just based on the color of their skin. My least favorite part of the movie, was when Paul was in a car going back to the hotel after getting food and supplies, then suddenly the road gets very bumpy and his sight gets over run by fog. Only to find, that he was riding a road full of dead
