Mr. Freeman's Character Analysis

Being an impactful teacher is a tall task that not many teachers have the skills or characteristics to do. An example of a great teacher would be Mr. Freeman, who made a huge impact on Melinda while she was going through a rough time during her freshman year. A teacher that I would compare to Mr. Freeman is my 6th grade teacher, Mr. Condary, who has made a huge impact on my life. Not only has he been my teacher, he has also been my football coach for the past 3 years. He has taught me how to be a better person and showed me what the real world is going to be like. Him being one of the funniest coaches on the football team has also made football a more enjoyable sport but then again he knows when and when not to crack a joke. Many teachers fail at doing this because they hate their job and dislike being there. A time when my sixth grade teacher Mr. Condray was chill when nobody finished their homework and he gave us all an extra day to complete it. In the book "Speak” Mr. Freeman says “You are on fire Melinda, I can see it in your eyes” (Anderson pg.61). When he says this he is talking about Melinda's creativity in art class and compliments her which is a great example of being a pretty chill teacher. Students generally like the teachers that are more fun to be around and show respect. I believe that Melinda likes Mr. Freeman so much because they share the same interest and he is one of her only friends throughout the book. To me, I would consider Mr. Condray as one of my good friends even though he is my teacher. Teachers, being able to speak to students as a friend is a necessity for being a great teacher in the eyes of a student. Being able to joke around with someone is a great way to show your friendship.
