The MMR vaccine is made up of live, weakened strains of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella viruses. The first dose of the MMR vaccine is usually given after a child’s first birthday. Many times a second dosage of the MMR vaccine is given to ensure protection from Measles, Mumps, and Rubella. A second dose is given between four and six years of age. However, the second dose could be given sooner, as long as there has been a span of twenty-eight days since the first dose. Like any vaccine, the MMR vaccine can cause allergic reactions for some recipients. Mild reactions include fever, rash, and swollen glands. Moderate reactions include seizures, pain or stiffening of joints, and low platelet count. Severe reactions include deafness, long-term seizing,
