Why could have Adnan Syed be guilty for murdering Hae Min Lee? Serial, a podcast, investigates a case regarding the murder of a high school senior, Hae Min Lee. The case is revolves mainly around Adnan Syed, a 17 year old from Woodlawn High School, who was Hae’s boyfriend until they suddenly broke up. Apparently, Adnan killed Hae in rage and was sentenced to life in prison. Sarah Koenig reopens the mysterious case and discovers new evidence on whether Adnan Syed is guilty or innocent. After investigating, it is clear that Adnan is guilty because Adnan is an E.M.T, he changes his story, and because his coach couldn’t confirm that he saw him at track practice.

Why would he do that? Why would he tell the first cop he’s expecting a ride and then once it’s clear Hae is missing change his story?(Episode 2 pg41). Adnan changes his story between police officers, making him seem more suspicious. Adnan’s modification of his story makes it appear like he is lying. Typically when someone adjusts their story after they have been arrested, they could be lying as they would want to avoid being caught. ”Then, a little more than two weeks after the call with Officer Adcock, on February 1, by this time the search for Hae has ramped up, a different detective calls. Asks Adnan about the ride thing. Asks him “did you tell Officer Adcock you’d asked Hae for a ride?” According to the police report, “Adnan says this was incorrect because he drives his own car to school.”(Episode 2 pg41). Additionally, it states that Adnan says that he asked Hae for a ride to one officer, while he changes his story once he is arrested to him driving his own car to school. Since Adnan reverses himself, he could be seen as lying as normally if someone were to try to escape conviction, they may lie.
