1890s was an era that has been known as a “golden age” in the history of musical theater. Hundreds of musical comedies were staged on Broadway in the 1890s and early 20th century. They were song written in New York’s Tin Pan Alley, including those by George M. Cohan. He was the first one created an American style distinct from the Gilbert and Sullivan works.
