The hero I researched was Caecilia Antonia Maria Loots. She is recognized because she took Jewish kids into her school for severely disabled kids. She was right next to a German concentration camp in Amersfoort. Her friend asked her if she could take in these kids and keep them safe there. She had a hiding place in her attic where she would take the kids if the Nazis came in. She only had to use it a few times throughout the time when the kids were there. Caecilia was a Catholic, but she took in the kids just to protect them. The Holocaust started in around 1933 when the Nazis took power in Germany. During the Holocaust over 6 million Jewish people were murdered. The Nazis did not just murder Jews, they also murdered people of other religions like gypsies. The also murdered some slavic people. At the beginning of the Holocaust there were over 9 million Jews living in Europe. By the end of the holocaust, the nazis had killed 2 out of every 3 Jews. The jews would be sent to camps.
