The Myra Kraft Transitional Year Program will provide me with an opportunity to truly learn what it is to be aware of the demands associated with succeeding in college. This includes not only excelling intellectually and professionally, but also socially. With the coursework dedicated to prepare me for my future years at Brandeis, I will be able to think deeply about the world around me. The MKTYP will empower my intellectual growth because I will be urged to ask questions that address the functionality of society. The MKTYP will help me to understand viewpoints and cultures with the programs aim for creating social justice which directly applies to the idea of unification and comprehensiveness in the workplace. Another important aspect of being a professional and being a successful college student is time management. Brandeis’ MKTYP will provide me with an extra year to familiarize myself with the level of work in college and how I will effectively utilize this time to include activities that cover wide ranges in areas that I am passionate about. Time management is not only a valuable habit for a college student, but also for a future professional. In the workplace, especially in a business environment, there are many projects that must be completed within certain time frames in order to keep the place running effectively. My leadership experience in high school has strengthened my devotion to think more critically about how I can create and sustain a more inclusive environment at Brandeis. The first step to creating social change is to build a sense of community. A true “community” is when the members understand each other and can communicate without judgment or fear of it. This includes cancelling social judgements dealing with race, economic standing, political stance, religious affiliation, sexual preference, and physical or mental disabilities. Establishing this positive level of a community early on in college will aid in the abnegation of such judgment al acts in the future, where students can create opportunities for each other regardless of social standing, and can create opportunities for themselves. This ties into the idea on networking. Personally, aside from learning, creating impactful social change is at the top of my list. I want to start off by contributing to my campus. I will become more involved in different activities and try to bring diverse people together to help create more tolerance and spread this idea of social justice.
