I chose the NANDA-1 nursing diagnosis Activity Intolerance. The information pertinent for supporting this diagnosis is the report of this patient’s shortness of breath with activity and having an oxygen saturation of 91% on 2 liters of oxygen via nasal cannula. Pneumonia, being the diagnosis, causes impaired gas exchange causing breathing to be difficult, and the chest x-ray showing consolidation in the bases is key, accumulation of fluids in the lungs decreasing surface areas for adequate gas exchange causing a decrease in the amount of oxygen being absorbed therefore causing difficulty breathing and shortness of breath.
Activity Intolerance related to impaired respiratory function as evidenced by reporting shortness of breath with activities.
