Every team has a coach or manager who tells them how to act, play, and makes the important game decisions. In college basketball the highest paid coaches, Jim Calipari and Mike Krzyzewski, make over six million dollars a year (http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/mens-basketball/coach/). Some people react to a stern and vocal coach, while others may react better to a calm and more personal coach. This is why coaches are so important; players will react differently to coaching styles. A coach who has a set style can set the tone in his or her way by making sure the players understand what he expects. Once there is a common understanding between the two, the team will be able to function properly. When there are greater expectations from a coach there will be an increase in productivity resulting in a better team. Once that tone is set in stone for months or even years, it will be easier for the team to come together and compete at a higher level. A coach with an extraordinary skill in the understanding of the sport will be more desired than one who doesn’t know the sport. Whether it’s an offensive or defensive specialty that in depth knowledge will put them at the top of the list for the best coaches. X’s and O’s are a very important part of the game because in order to succeed, you need to have a plan for winning the game. A coach who has an expertise in one aspect will also be able to make changes in the heat of the moment or during a competition. This effort needs to be focused, but he or she will need to still oversee the rest of the teams units. Some coaches however like to delegate and split responsibilities between multiple assistant coaches. This strategy is good too, because they will be able to control the team in all aspects and keep a common understanding within the team. When a coach is able to specialize in one aspect of the game, they will be able to help the team a lot. If he or she choses to delegate and oversee all aspects, the team may have a better chemistry and understanding of what is
