For a week in June 2016, I had the pleasure of attending Hoosier Girls State at Trine University in Angola, IN, as a delegate from my high school. While I had certainly learned about government and political parties, these seven days at Trine University were spent experiencing the shockingly hectic college lifestyle.
The first sign that Hoosier Girls State, or simply HGS, was a program not only dedicated to the education of government but also preparation for college was signified by the “Welcome to Trine University” sign. The area was unknown to me, and with my city of thirty-two unfamiliar faces, my mind oscillated between pure excitement and crippling anxiety. There was a meeting or event scheduled every minute of every day, so I had to quickly adjust to such a rigorous schedule. Deadlines for sign-ups, speeches, campaigns, elections, and surveys accumulated rapidly, so the campus was always quite a bustling hub of frantic activity.
