Let us start at the beginning. I first met Mr. Parker in 8th grade when he came to talk to the class about marching band. At the time, I was thinking, “OH NOOOOO! I can’t do band. He’s going to be rough on me!” I was terrified of Mr. Parker at the time. He came up to me and asked if I was going to do marching band, and I told him, “I’m not sure yet. I might do football.” I knew I didn’t want to do marching if I didn’t have to. Then he showed us a DCI show in our band class and I about lost it. It was amazing to see these marching bands play so well and march all of these cool figurations. I was an amazed 8th grader at that time. I later told my section leader that I was going to do marching band, and Mr. Parker took a chance on me and let me play the first part for the show. I wasn’t sure how to react all I knew was I better get to practicing. Fast forward to my first solo and ensemble. I remember the bus ride coming home as a time that I figured out that Mr. Parker is a cool dude, and also that “Yes Noah. This year Mr. Parker has pushed me as a person and a trumpet player. When he gave me this year’s show music, I thought that he was crazy. He had given me all high C’s basically and I thought I was going to die, but then I saw that I had solo’s I was like, “SCORE!” This past marching season he also made me learn how to lead a section that is normally full of trouble, but with his help made it so this year the trumpet section was one of the better sections on the field.
