“Hey get back here or you're dead.” The plantation owner yelled at me as he sent his dogs. Now you're really dead. Jessie gets lost in the woods, and she says, “I’m free.” Jessie had been a field slave in Missouri her whole life. Finally at 30 Jessie had had enough of being beaten by her master, Steven.
So she started walking toward the. North Star one night She was headed to a house that she thought was one that you can stay in if you're a runaway slave, so she walks up to it.

Knock, knock. Jessie hears a loud man yell “WHAT” from inside the house. “I'm a runaway, so can I stay here,” says Jessie.
“Oh so you're a runaway slave,” says Will as he opens the door.
“Yes,” says Jessie, and she walks in the house.
“YEAH WELL I'M A SLAVE CATCHER!” …show more content…

“I'm a runaway slave can I stay here until the mornin”, says jessie. “Yes, yes come in. (so she comes in) So can I get you anything, like some bread, or some blankets”. Says the nice lady. “Yeah I am very hungry, so can I have some bread”, says jessie. “So where are you from and where are you headen”. Says the nice lady. “Well i'm from MO, and going to IL”. “well i'll take you to your room and you can get so rest and start up early in the morning and i'll give you some water and bread for your long walk, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
