Being a writer not only gives you a chance to say how you feel about a certain topic, but it also gives you a chance to give other people your knowledge on certain topics or situations, etc. With being a writer comes knowing how to talk to a certain type of audience that will be able to understand what you are writing, such as a discourse community. Not only do writers get the chance to give you a little bit of insight of what they think, but also to try to persuade you to go read this book, or go watch this movie, or just believe in this and everything will be okay. As a reader, before you even start reading you have to prepare yourself for questions you might have, or remember to have an open mind when reading something you’re not quite familiar/agree with at that moment. Knowing when and how to ask the question of the authors writing is a very important way of learning/understanding what you are reading much better. Not only does a writer get free say in what they talk about, they get to discuss difference of opinions or be biased to the fullest extent, for us to still understand that is. They try to persuade us into reading something they believe is a really good book or article. Natalie Standiford does a great job with giving a book review in “The Tenacity of Hope” as she talks about two different books both dealing with two teenage girls with cancer. She summarizes both “The Fault in Our Stars” and “The Probability of Miracles” quiet well, showing us the differences between these two books and the similarities within them. Standiford talks about how both girls have cancer, but are given hope when they met a guy
