Turner, Nat. The Rebellion of Nate Turner. Virginia: Plantation., 1800.
Nate Turner was a black American slave who led a rebellion on (August 1831) in U.S. history.
Nate Turner was born in a Virginian plantation owned by Benjamin Turner. He allowed Nat too be instructed in writing, religion and reading. Nat was sold three times into slavery during his childhood then finally hired out to too someone named John Travis in 1820. There he became a fiery preacher also a leader of the African-American slaves on the plantation he was on also in his neighborhood of Southampton County. He claimed to have been chosen by a god to lead the slaves from their shackles and show them a better live. He was told he was the one who would lead the slaves to their salvation too free them from slavery. And too lead the everyone to a better life overall.

He claimed that a vision showed him a spirit that told him to “return to the service of my earthly master”. After a year, his master Samuel Turner died resulting in him being sold to another named Thomas Moore. Three years later Nat Turner had another vision he saw multiple lights in the sky and begged to know what the lights meant. While working in the fields, Nat discovered drops of blood on corn stalks which he thought came from heaven. Nat communicated about the blood to many others both white and black in his neighborhood. Later he discovered hieroglyphic characters and numbers on leaves in the woods resembling hieroglyphic characters and numbers with men in different attitudes which was portrayed in blood. Which were like his visions he had seen of the heavens. That showed him that he would be a great leader in the rebellion that he was about too
