The followers of Nathaniel Bacon sought redress of issues with the governor's favoritism toward certain individuals, the lack of proper fortifications, and the defending of the Native Americans in the region. Bacon states in his declaration that the governor was raising taxes in order to help advance his group of friends and favorites.
