Players are distracted when their teammates protest during games, which causes some players to play worse. The teammates are highly distracted when their fellow teammates kneel during the anthem, thus making the protest futile.
When NFL players refuse to stand during the National Anthem, their protest is ineffective. There are better ways to show the world their views than that.
Some veterans believe the National Anthem protests are disrespectful, and the athletes should pick a more civil way to protest.
Veteran Russell McCann stated, “There's just a total disrespect all around. Let's not lose sight of what the flag stands for, and that people died for that flag. Players can protest however they want, but not in that manner” (Olson).

The NFL wants a rule that would not allow athletes to kneel during the National Anthem.
The 2017 NFL rule book does not have any rules about the National Anthem and what players must do during the song (Spencer).
Although there is no rule forcing players to stand yet, the National Football League is considering making a rule that would demand athletes stand during the National Anthem (Frank).
The NFL has noticed the major changes in the league because of the anthem protests, so they may decide to create a rule that makes players respect their country by standing, just like other sports leagues have done.
The Olympic guidelines do not allow political demonstrations.
The Olympic book of rules states that there cannot be political, religious, or racial protests at the Olympics (Wharton).
The highly esteemed Olympic games do not let the athletes show their political standpoint anywhere at the Olympics, which shows that all sports leagues should not allow players to show their political views.
The NBA does not let athletes disrespect the anthem.
The NBA 2015-2016 list of rules mentions that all players and coaches must stand during the National Anthem
