My instinct to serve others started when I was very young in elementary school. I took leadership roles in every service project my school participated in. I transitioned into high school eager to find a leadership role involving serving my community. “S” Club gave me the freedom to create original service projects that offer our members new experiences and expand the club’s relationship with various charitable organizations. Since organizing visits to the VA Hospital and making wishes come true for children through Make-A-Wish, I’ve become sensitive to their reality. I was exposed to the reality that our current culture is not focused on the people who need the most attention. I now understand that even though these people cannot contribute to society as they once did or as efficiently as a “normal” person, does not mean they are to be forgotten about. This understanding has influenced my future career. “S” Club inspired me to pursue a career that serves the public and educates people on the value of giving back to their community. As a young child, I tended to become ill often. I entered my junior year chronically ill, which resulted in my absence for almost thirty percent of the school year. The material my peers were able to learn in class, I had to teach myself. After many years, specialists were finally able to conclude that I have a rare tissue type called B51, resulting in an inefficient immune system.
