I am writing this letter to express my genuine interest in the National Student Osteopathic Surgical Association officer program. I have had the privilege to speak with current officers at the Fall Conference this past year. I was impressed by their enthusiasm and encouragement, and I believe becoming a National Officer is a great way to serve outside of my local SOSA chapter.
After experiencing my first SOSA conference this last fall, it was evident that there is a close-knit community and a feeling of comradery amongst the students from schools all over the country. It was infectious and strengthened my desire to go beyond just being a member. Becoming a National Officer has appealing qualities such as discipline, leadership, serving others, and many networking opportunities. These components are vital aspects to become a caring, competent, and efficient surgeon. Thus, becoming an officer is compatible with my career goals. However, I am most excited about the opportunity to help reflect, cultivate and steward aspiring future surgeons, in the hopes of strengthening the SOSA community as I have already experienced.
