I choose naturopathic medicine because after furthur research and a lot of readings, I believe that naturopathic medicine can offer patients a better medical system. Adding Naturopathic medicine to a health degree can improve the way medicine is practiced around the globe. By including naturopathy foundations of health, which is oftentimes neglected in the tradionial doctor’s office, like diet, spirituality, stress management, and exercise, can really change and enhance patients’ care. Naturopathic medicine came from the alternative healing systems back during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and can be traced back to its philosophical roots of the vitalistic school of medicine of Ancient Greece. Vitalistic is now called natural medicine. Dr. Benedict Lust was the founder of naturopathy, the man who sustained and popularized it. In 1902, he founded the American School of Naturopathy in New York. In 1902 Benedict Lust founded the American School of Naturopathy in in NY after having cured himself of Tuberculosis with Natural means. The years from 1900 to 1917 were formative ones for naturopathic medicine in America as the various forms of natural medicines were combined into one eclectic system.
Naturopathic programs are accredited by an organization lead by naturopaths, this authority granted to them by the U.S. Department of Education, and they make up their own standards. The Leaders in the naturopathic profession use the accreditation status of naturopathic programs to lead the public to believe that naturopathic medicine is safe, effective all while convincing the students that they are entering an authentic …show more content…
Colorado State became the 17th state to provide legal recognition for NDs. The law stopped short of allowing or providing full licensure to NDs, it instead allowed qualified NDs to register with the state, allowing them to carry malpractice insurance and set annual professional education requirements. Colorado State has a group called The Colorado Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CoAND), a professional membership association of naturopathic doctors (NDs) whom live and work in Colorado. According to the website, there are 77 naturopathic providers just in the city of Colorado
