The "Code Talkers" are Navajo Indians who were trained to fight and send radio codes to other Code Talkers. The Code Talkers were fluent in the Navajo language and were fast at translating the Navajo code. They were brought from the reserves and learned (for what may be their first time) what was outside of their home. They learned discipline, the code, and were ready for war. The Code Talkers proved they were invaluable to victory with their amazing efficiency. One funny thing is, the Navajo were sometimes confused for Japanese resulting in more "interrogations" and friendly fire than there would have been had they not been a part of WWII.

The Navajo code was created as a need to stop the Japanese code breakers. The Japanese were constantly breaking the military's codes and the US needed new codes. The reason why specifically the Navajo language was integrated into the military codes was all because the Navajo words have multiple meanings and the Navajo language is almost incomprehensible. His father, William Johnston was a missionary and around Philip’s age of 4, the family moved to Flagstaff, Arizona to work in the Navajo reservation in the area. By playing with the Navajo children in the reservation, Philip learned to fluently speak basic Navajo language. In March of 1918, Philip was enlisted into the army’s 319th Engineering Corps. In 1925, Philip received the Civil Engineering degree. World War II has come to the US. After the war started, Philip read a newspaper on how a few Native Americans used their own language to exchange information and Philip came up with the idea of using the Navajo language as a code. After successfully demonstrating how effective the language is, General Clayton B. Vogel on March 6, 1942 wrote to the US Marine Corps high command suggesting use of the
