Pinetop The Town
At first I had planned on writing about the virtual community of Kelsey. However, the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to write about a real life place that I can relate to and have some personal experience. So the more I thought about it and the more I thought about all of the places I’ve traveled to, there was one place in particular that really stood out in my mind. This place, would be the small and wonderful town of Pinetop, Arizona.
The Town Pinetop, is located in the white mountains of Arizona at an elevation of 7,300 ft. and located about 3 hours north east of Phoenix. The town has a population of nearly 12,000 residents and then during the summer months jumps up to about 30,000. The town itself has a hospital, two fire departments, a police station, a movie theatre, several award winning golf courses, a movie theatre, a community college and a k-12 education system known as Blue Ridge. Now I know on the face value it doesn’t sound like there’s a lot to do in Pinetop, but man is there a lot to really do. The emergency services and healthcare systems in Pinetop offer residents great career opportunities, but they tend to have a higher turnover rate as many of these employees leave to a bigger city, once they have established themselves in their fields of work. The education system in Pinetop is in the top 3 within the state of Arizona and employs more than 50 of the towns’ residents. Besides, these major employers within the town, the rest of the community could be considered a hard working middle class society.
The Community
One of the ways in which this town really comes together, are the various activities and functions that are created by the High School. Blue Ridge has always been a strong football school and every single home game, the entire town shuts down to come watch the boys play on Friday nights. It truly is remarkable how the town rallies around the High School. The town also has a yearly Fall Festival that offers carnival games, a chili cook off, petting zoos and is highlighted by a parade. A very unique aspect in the town of Pinetop, is the overall mixture of cultures. Pinetop is located just miles from the Navajo Indian Reservation, so there are several natives who live in the town and
