The popularity of sports games have increased exponentially over the past few years. Take the NBA 2k franchise for example, it went from just another sports game franchise to the #1 basketball video game company in the world. The huge rise in popularity not only had effects on society, but it also shaped the way people view the NBA and how NBA players actually view themselves. In the early 2000s, professional basketball players were too busy with their job to take into account what a video game rated them. Ethics usually refers to one's morals and doing what is morally right. A normal moral human being would not put video games above the important things in life such as work, their relationships, or their education. Just like other video games the excitement for 2k can cause people to forget what is important to them and have them focused on the game. With all games there is a midnight release where people line up at the game store around 11pm in order to get the game. These releases usually occur during the middle work so the buyer depending on their age, usually has school or work the next day and instead of going to bed early they are at the mall at midnight trying to purchase a video game. The 2k franchise even acknowledge themselves and decided to build their brand even further using this phenomenon. The official 2k social media accounts coined the phrase #2kDay where people drop everything they have to go and play the game. One of the posts they made was “Things you will not to do today” and that included school work, your job, texting, going outside to eat etc, and under things you will do today it said in big bold letters “NBA 2K.” They even printed out a special room sign that says “Do not Disturb, they are playing
