Gender equality pay within the WNBA.

Imagine getting promoted to Manager and then getting paid the same as the cashier, unfair, right? Well, that’s how most women in the WNBA feel. After college, lots of very talented women end up quitting just because the WNBA isn’t supported enough. Women’s basketball needs to be given a larger salary. The given salary right now in the WNBA is unlivable and most don’t continue to the WNBA because of it. People should also suggest or think about the WNBA, as most don’t even know about it.

Women athletes have the same goal of performing at the highest level and they should be rewarded equally for their hard work, but for the last twenty-seven years it hasn’t. In the article “Gender pay equality should be a slam dunk”, by Rhonde Nedra, talks about how women just want equality within the industry; “they don’t expect to earn the same multimillion-dollar salaries, they want the opportunity to have the same share of revenue”(Rhonde).This explains that women don’t want and don’t expect the same salaries, they just want to have the same attention for doing the same job as their male counterparts. In the article “WNBA Fan Base Grows, and Grows Ever Less Patient”, by Tumin Remy, she states “It makes no sense that a star women’s basketball player makes less than a bench player in the NBA”. Tumin Remy explains that the benchwarmers in the NBA get paid more than the women in the country. It matters because she’s totally right, women need a larger salary because within ten years the WNBA could stay the same way.
