Dead Poets Society is a movie about a group of friends that defy authority and find themselves. Neal Perry is a insecure teenage boy, who attends an elite boarding school, Weldon. Neal aspires to be great at everything and wants to experience as much of life as he can. He is constantly reminded that he is expected to get perfect grades and become a doctor. Neal’s father is tough on him because he never had opportunities that Neal has. In a way, Neal’s father is living through him. In the movie Dead Poets society, Neal made rash decisions, hurting several people in the process, which led to his suicide.
Neal arrives to Weldon and meets his new English teacher, Mr. Keeting, and new roommate, Todd. Mr. Keeting is not a regular teacher. He encourages his students to stand on their desks and rip the Introduction To Poetry from their textbooks. He later introduces his students to the idea of The Dead Poets Society, after they come across his old yearbook. That night, he is told that he will be attending a military school the next day. Neal goes into his father’s office, takes out his gun, and commits suicide. His parents find his body and immediately blame the school. Cameron goes to the dean and blames Neal’s death on Mr. Keeting, to avoid punishment. He warns the other boys to do the same, but they stand behind Mr. Keeting. In the end, Mr. Keeting is fired, and comes in the middle of class to collect his things. The students give Mr. Keeting a final salute by standing on their desks shouting “ Oh Captain! My Captain!”, which is lead by the shy and insecure,
