Negotiation is a part of our daily life not only in our professional life but in our regular life too. If we see our surrounding will found ourselves using different kind of negotiation techniques and actually we are using those. Whether we like it or not but we are doing or we have to do negotiation. As a simple example when we were kids we exchanged our toys which was a negotiation. When I was a kid I used to collect different kinds of stamps of countries. So whenever I had a stamp double times I exchange it with my friend or friend’s friend. There I had to negotiate to get the rare stamp of untypical country. I can clearly remember I always wanted to exchange my those stamps which are triple or more and old but in exchange I wanted the best one which is not so not so common country. Those are negotiation techniques we have done unknowingly in our childhood. since we are grow up and busy with our personal improvement we are also doing the same but now we know what we want and why we want. Now we don’t have time or we don’t want to waste our valuable time for persuading someone or by impressing someone. Its better for us to go for a deal which is led by negotiation. When two or more people or parties intended to reach an understanding, resolve points of difference, to gain advantage for an individual or collective, or to craft outcomes to satisfy various interests is call Negotiation which is basically dialogue.
As a senior HR coordinator sometimes I had to negotiate with the future employees of the company. One of my challenging recruitment was hiring our HR department head. At that point of time we didn’t have any HR head and we were really needed someone very soon. So our organization was looking for someone experience and wise person. But there were so many conflicts within the company and the person who will be in the position will have less authority to do work. And most importantly he or she have to restructure the whole company which is a very difficult job to do as this company was old local established company with more than 90% old employees who are not very sound in technology. Our CEO wanted the best person from the market but with lowest wages. After waiting for several months finally we can come up with one person with all the requirements which we wanted from her. She was very wise and more than 15 years of experience. She also worked with multinational company. As there wasn’t any senior person in our HR department I had to arrange all the meetings with her with our board of directors of the company. So here I had to negotiate for the interview times of our five directors as well as with the HR department head to be. After meeting with her our directors also liked her very well and they also wanted her in our company. But the salary what she asked was way far amount which we actually can afford though our CEO increased his expected salary amount to recruit her. As we cannot increased all the facilities or salary of the department heads for only one person because it can create conflicts among department heads. In our internal meeting I proposed to create a special package for her. In the package we offered free medical, transportation cost and yearly fixed amount for foreign trip. Those three package was new in our company and we made those offered only to recruit her.
In our free medical offer she would have free medical and as well her family members also can get free medical.
In the transportation cost she can use her own car or any rental car but at the end of the month she can reimburse a fixed amount which was quite good.
For the vacation she can go to foreign countries twice a year and company will bear a fixed amount for that. After all the meetings and composing finally we couldn’t recruit her. Later we hear that
