The career I choose is nursing because I enjoy helping kids. I want to go into the Neonatal field of nursing because I want to learn and help the NICU babies. Such as their illness, their disabilities, and how to help them and their parents. I chose Neonatal Nursing because I lost a son at 20 weeks. My placenta was over my cervix, which resulted in me being put on bed rest. I dilated early because I had to come to school and was stressing over my placenta being over my cervix, causing me to bleed everyday. I want to help mothers who experienced what I experienced and were as scared as me. I want to learn more about how to help mothers who are going through similar situations. I’m interested in this field because it brings me happiness learning how to take care of these babies and how to cure them. The purpose of this paper is to explain why I’m interested in this career. It’s to explain these nurses job description, job duties, the educational requirements, my future career, the history of nursing, and the pros and cons of going into this career. Nursing started when Florence Nightingale led a group of female nurses to the Crimea in October of 1854 to deliver nursing services to the British soldiers. In the passage, “American Nursing: An Introduction to the Past,” states that this is how nursing came to be established as explained above. Nursing has changed a lot over the years since it was established. In the text, “How Has Nursing Changed Over Time”, it says that nursing has become more specialized and technologically driven. Nurses now have access to advanced medical requirements and treatments, and they play a larger role in patient care and advocacy. It’s pretty amazing how far nursing has come since October of 1854.
