Jen Christensen’s article, “Nerd Alert: Reading is Good For Your Health” tells us about a trending and exciting form of therapy; bibliotherapy. Instead of the usual visit where you walk away with a prescription, or tell your life story to the therapist while laying reclined, you instead receive a list of books to read, based on your personal situation. Though most people are skeptical, recent studies have been conducted to help support certain claims; like that fiction can improve your empathy, love life, and help you turn over a new leaf. Research is still in it’s early stages and a lot of what we do and what we don’t know is up for debate. From the article, I learned about how a new form of therapy could affect many people's lives for the better.

It’s a growing trend where people tell empathetic listeners like Courtney their goals or problems.” Founder of Bibliotherapy, Allison Kerr Courtney doesn’t provide her patients with a normal session, or reward them with a prescription of medication. Instead, based on the client's personal history and what they’re going through with in life they receive a list of books. Courtney also states, “Not everyone is ready for certain books, and that’s OK.” This is because of the fact that Courtney provides books that are very similar to what they’re experiencing in their daily life, and depending on the client's stage in their therapy they might not yet be ready to read books that strike too close to home.
