The mission of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is to collect, analyze, and distribute foreign intelligence to US officials in matters regarding the National Security (FAQs). Though the agency does a great job of executing orders and following procedures, the U.S. intelligence community continues to face criticism for its perceived shortcomings. One of the faults being that the lack of coordination between the CIA and the FBI caused the tragic event known as 9/11 which could have been prevented.
On September 11, 2011, two planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane crashed into the Pentagon, a building outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane was destroyed by crashing in a field in Pennsylvania (History). The report made by a joint committee of the House and Senate intelligence panels, discovered that nearly two years before the attacks, the Central Intelligence Agency knew about the terror relations between the two men, Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf Alhazmi.
