The staff members will need to buy into the new conscious sedation checklist. Lewin Change Theory consists of three stages: unfreezing, freezing, and refreezing. The first stage in helping people adapt to change involves unfreezing their attachment to the current practice (Williams, D. & Butts-Dion, S., 2016). The staff members need to understand why change is necessary and how the change will be accomplished. An in-service on the new conscious sedation checklist will explain the how it works and why the change is necessary. A role-playing exercise of a procedure involving a conscious sedated patient will take place during the in-service. Several in-services will take place during at different times and different days of the week, so all staff member will have a chance to attended.
