Freedom and death. The following events are what caused the historical New York Draft Riot. There is more to the events that lead to it than thought because they just not created many conflicts and deaths they also kind of saved lives. They saved lives of innocents and killed the lives of innocents. Although they caused affliction they change the courses of how people live in America Cotton started being cultivated in the south which started to be shipped to New York were from there the cotton was exported to other countries like New England which also cultivated but wasn’t as successful. Most of New York's economy was based on cotton shipments. Most of the people cultivating the cotton were slaves in the south, then we started to see slavery more commonly. Around the 18500 in Ireland a disease that killed potatoes plants and potato roots called the potato blight which then caused the famous potato famine. Which then caused the potato famine which was a time period which many people were affected because they were dependent on the potato for surviving purposes economic and even socially. In 1962 Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation that freed some slaves in only certain areas. Which was also only a warning to give the confederate states to surrender or stop being rebellious. Then in 1963 he officially issued the Emancipation proclamation which freed all slaves from any confederate state which allowed them to go to states like New York. Were they coming with the same intensions as the Irish, to gain the well-known 'American Dream'. With the Civil War still in place the united states need men to fight. Which is where the "Enrollment Act " comes in
