In the beginning of the book Rob the main character goes to Draper and doesn't know what will await him. He was a little nervous but was not afraid of anything like segregation or racism. He did not back down to the whites. He did what he had to do and did it well. Also he put his needs before vinnie and that then sent negative effects on Vine. Robs decision not to visit Vinne made him lose a friend that was his only friend from the start. On page 276 Vinne say “ I Never should have let Spencer put me in here. It is like segregation. The first one being Draper. Draper is a boarding school in connecticut which is in the south. It ha some but not much segregation. This is because it is in the North. But Rob was the only colored kid so there had to be some obstacles for him. The second setting is in the hometown of Rob which is in Virginia. That is in the south so there is a lot of segregation that Rob had to face. People in the south besides the colored people think that they are the superior person to the colored people. On page 167-168 a woman threatens to call the floor worker for no reason. That is not true at all. But when he is at Draper in the North he get treated more as an equal and closer to what he should be treated like. So you can tell the both of the setting are so much different. Basically opposites. The south does not follow the theme and the north get close but not all quiet there to getting close to the
