Personally, I agree with Nicias' definition the most which states that "the knowledge of the fearful and the hopeful in war and in every situation" (195A) is courage. Although, I agree even more with Nicias' refined definition of courage being knowledge of the past, present, and future because courage is not only the future like he originally stated. I also like that Nicias included that courage is in all aspects of life and not just war because it made his definition less broad. In order to have courage, you have to also have fear because without being scared, there is no courage and in order to have hope, you are normally scared.
