It’s true that non-conformity in our society is looked down upon. Because of odd style or behavior, nonconformists such as, Johnny Depp are often judged critically and labeled from how they represent themselves. In the 1990 film Edward Scissorhands, Depp took a non-conformist approach to playing a quirky gothic character. According to, biography.com, “Depp carved a niche for himself as a serious, somewhat dark, idiosyncratic performer, consistently selecting roles that surprise critics and audiences alike.” He cares about the character he portrays and the authenticity he brings to the role instead of conforming to a traditional approach to acting the film.
