Their mission statement in its entirety is, “United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good.” Brian Gallagher has done a great job upholding this mission statement. In their most recent successes under the leadership of Gallagher, United Way has built 600 classrooms in the Philippines; trained 8,000 people for in-demand jobs in Cincinnati, Ohio; and distributed 50,000 mosquito nets in Uganda. They have also helped increase the graduation rate in the Vallejo City Unified School District increase by 11 percent in just three years. Local branches are responsible for putting on their own programs (Our mission, 2015). One example of this comes from North Carolina where they honored local heroes. In 2014, United Way teamed up with Coinbase which is part of the social sector. This has been great for donations for United Way. “United Way Worldwide and Coinbase have entered into a partnership in which donors around the world can contribute to United Way’s Innovation Fund using the bitcoin currency.” This makes it easier for donors to support the causes that matter the most.
