The tactics used in Birmingham was called Project C and were nonviolent. The 1st tactic was a series of "sitins" that were targeted at local and downtown business. It consisted of blacks dinning at white only restaurants. This tactic was used to gain social and economic leverage for the blacks in order to stop segregation. The 2nd tactic was a series of mass marches with the intention of filling up the jails with blacks. Once Congress ran out of jail cells they reconsidered their approach on handing the civil rights movement.
