Down the south of the border, in the heart of the city of Tijuana where many drug cartels, black markets, and a little hidden genre of music that combines two different genres of music into one masterpiece, Nortec. Nortec itself is a bizarre combination of traditional Norteño and Electronic dance that was started by Pepe Mogt 15 years ago when he was experimenting mixing multiple genres of music together (The Sound of Movement: Nortec Collective). According to Nor-tec Rifa! 15 years years ago, a few friends gathered around future Nor-tec artist Pedro Beas’s (Hiperboreal) home in Tijuana. Pepe Mogt (Fussible) mentions that he has a CD that will blow their mind away (Nor-tec Rifa!). First off, a little history behind the musica norteña. Norteño is a traditional Mexican music that using an accordion as one of the main instruments of choice (Pena) along with the bajo sexton, a twelve string guitar (Traditional Mexican). During the late 19th century many Europeans brought many of their instruments to Mexico and the southeastern parts of the United States (Traditional Mexican). Many local bands were influenced by many of the European traditions they have brought over to them and decided to use it in combination with the traditional folk music to create something new (Traditional Mexican). Some information about the context of the music is that the tempo of the music is usually between normal to fast pace tempo (Traditional Mexican).
