2. What is the difference between a'smart' and a'smart'? I chose to compare and contrast the institution of slavery in the West Indies and the Northern Colonies. Slavery in the West Indies and the Northern Colonies varied significantly in scale and economic focus. In the West Indies, slavery was central to the plantation economy, particularly in sugar production, which required large numbers of enslaved Africans to work under harsh conditions. The system in the West Indies was deeply dependent on slavery, with a strict racial hierarchy and high mortality rates among enslaved workers. In contrast, the Northern Colonies had a smaller scale of slavery, as their economies were more diversified, including trade, fishing, and small-scale farming.
