Unit 9 Final Project I would like to start this paper by stating that I have been on a low calorie diet for the past 3 weeks so if my foods seem like they are similar daily this is the reason why. I usually have a pretty healthy diet because nutrition is very important to me and for my children. I try to make sure that my children eat as healthy as possible and get the physical activity that need on a daily basis. I have always been like this so I do take Calcium and Vitamin D supplements to make up for my lack of consumption of these foods. Analyzing my diet as a pregnant woman, lactating woman and a 70 year old elderly man it is very clear that I am not consuming the variety of nutrients that are needed for these individual dietary needs. A pregnant woman needs to consume healthy choices from whole grains, dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables, protein sources. Foods from these food groups will provide good sources of Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Potassium, and iron. For a woman that is lactating the calories and the nutritional needs would be the same. For an elderly man it is still recommended to consume healthy food choices from all the food groups however, it is important that the consume the recommended dietary allowance of Vitamin D and calcium, fiber, potassium, and eating healthy fats. Vitamin D and calcium are important in elderly men to prevent osteoporosis because as we get older our bones become weaker and it is very important to help keep them strong. The elderly need to consume at least three servings of calcium and vitamin D every day. Also, when we get older it is important that you help keep your bowels flowing properly so, it is important to consume the recommended dietary fiber. Also, consuming healthy fats are very beneficial for good heart
