The NSC-68 supports the goals of the Truman Doctrine to a degree, however, changes the extent to which those goals go. The Truman Doctrine states that the United States must “support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures.” The Doctrine also states that the U.S. must “assist free peoples to work out their own destinies in their own way.” However the NSC-68 (National Security Council) takes this “help” a few steps forward.
