I interned at Avalon Software Consulting for 5 months during the Fall of 2015, from early August until the end of December. Founded in 2005, Avalon Software Consulting is a rapidly growing consulting company with focus to deliver laboratory quality management software to textile manufacturing companies in Florida.
I became familiar with Avalon Software Consulting through the email that Karen Brown sent to the department mailing forum about the internship opportunity. The internship mainly was concentrated on the on the quality control and product tests information systems. At the beginning of the internship I had set several learning goals regarding the improvement communication skills and my technical knowledge on IBM technologies like DB2 database, RPG programming language, AS/400, iSeries and System i.

The first is validation of information input by the user to make sure the test was ready to receive the information. The second step is uploading the test result data to the QC database server. From a design standpoint, we created two common programs that could be utilized by both types of test machines. This approach allowed us to create the utilities above then concentrate on parsing the data out of the information exported by the test machines.
For other tests, the information is captured in spreadsheets. For some quality control tests, this is the best place to do the calculations, provide the appropriate level of flexibility and record the test data. These spreadsheets need to be collaborative and pull the data together and update the centralized QC Database. In some cases, access to only certain part of the spreadsheet needed to be controlled. For the tests described above we utilized SharePoint to fulfill the needs of the QC
