Ever since I was a child I loved to take things apart. I liked to take them apart to see if I could understand what makes them work the way that they do. My parents would buy things like like legos and put together landscapes for toy trains to chugg around. I would always take apart what they had made and try to build my own version of the set. I kept it for several years but as time went on it only got slower, I knew that it was time for an upgrade. When I looked for parts I noticed that I would be hard pressed to find a new part that was compatible with the ones that I already had due to their age. I would have to do a full renovation to achieve even the slightest increase in performance, such as updating windows. So, I made a part list and acquired each piece of the computer over time. By the time I was ready to put the last piece in I knew exactly what to do. No longer did I have to look through manuels to find which cord went where, because I had done it so many times that I had the layout memorised.
For Christmas one year I got a remote controlled helicopter. It worked sometimes, but it was about as reliable as any other two channeled outdoor miniature helicopter from a convenience store. I was frustrated with its failures, and wanted to improve it. The next year, I did not ask for a helicopter, I asked for parts. I wanted to build it myself so that if it did not work, I would know why.
