o Ensuring the location of all VA official records generated during this media procedure is identified to the ISO who will document their location accordance with FSS Records Management procedures.

B. The Facility Media Sanitization IT Specialists is responsible:

As required, media sanitization IT Specialist must make this documentation available to the ISO.
o Wear appropriate personal protective equipment while performing sanitization procedures (gloves, eyewear, goggles, etc.).
o Label or mark hard drives and or removable data-storage media using indelible ink with the asset control (EE) number of the computer, laptop or device from which it was removed, ensuring not to write over/cover the serial number. If multiples drives are removed from the same server or devices, these must be labeled or/marked serially, as appropriate to the associated quantity.
o Maintain an accurate and inventory of all hard drives; electronic media and data storage devices. Document which system the electronic media or storage device was removed from and the decision made concerning final disposition of the electronic media or data storage device.
o Assure hard drives and other sensitive electronic media as well as data storage devices are maintained temporarily in facility’s secure storage area no longer than 90 days from the time of removal from host
