Lab 2 – Week 4
1 - Explain the steps that technicians need to know to protect themselves when working with computer components.
Technicians needs to know the potential danger of computer components and to protect themselves. Most importantly, they need to protect against electrical shocks. Before opening or taking apart a computer (or any other devices), it is imperative to unplug the machine from a power source. You also need to press the button “on” for a few second to discharge any electricity left. Technicians needs to be aware of burns. Some components, like the processor, might still be hot. It is necessary to leave the computer cool down before removing parts. Some components, as well as some tools, can be very sharp and it could be very easy to cut. Finally, eyes can be damaged by very tiny pieces (wire, component) if they need to be cut from a wire cutter or removed. Safety glasses needs to be worn at all time.
2 - Explain the different Form Factors available.
Form factor usually define the layout and the size of a motherboard. The different form factors available are the following:

They are usually found in offices. Mid-tower cases, the most popular design, offer upgradability and can be placed either under or on top of a desk. They usually have three to four internal/external drive bays. Mini-tower cases have limited internal space and focus mainly on size and practicality versus upgradability. They offer a maximum of two internal drive bays. Finally, full tower cases offer a lot of internal space with an important number of drive bays, between 6 and 10. They can hold multiple hard drives, or DVD drives and can be used as servers, mainframes and advanced workstations. You can also find specific computer case dedicated to media center, rack mounted (for servers), or the all in
