Personal Philosophy of Nursing Worksheet
This is a philosophy of nursing that reflects the beliefs and values of Stephanie Collins.
Today’s date is April 27, 2014.
I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is a rewarding profession, in which one provides patients with compassionate and accurate care, strives to advocate for others and will continue the quest for knowledge and improvement throughout their career.
I believe that the core of nursing is a values system that includes: integrity, nonmalficence, dignity, autonomy and altruism.
I believe that the focus of nursing is to employ critical thinking skills and empower patients by giving them the ability to maintain their own health the best that they can. Nursing care provided should preserve and/ or restore a patient’s health and well-being in a compassionate, non-judgmental environment.
My vision for myself as a nurse is that I will strive to provide holistic, individualized care that is culturally competent, accurate, and compassionate, adapting to change with stride and demonstrates respect for all those that I come in to contact with; fellow colleagues, patients and their family.
To live out my philosophy of nursing, every day I must remember this about the following:
1. My patients: are individuals with individual needs who may come from different cultures or have different belief systems. To provide individualized, cultural and spiritual/ religious beliefs should be entered in to the plan of care where appropriate.
2. My patients’ families: A patient’s family should be included in care if appropriate. Remember that they are
