There have been many theories that were suggested to describe the origin of conflict. In social psychology, the theories place an emphasis on political, social and material inequality of a group in society. In this context, conflict occurs due to power differentials and class conflict. Karl Marx is known as the father of the social conflict theory and there have been many social movements on the basis of his principles (Hintjens, 2014). Types of conflict theory include feminism, which aims to create equal rights between the different genders in society (Hintjens, 2014).
