There are many different definitions for leadership but only a unique individual can adapted that leadership role. As a leader you have to have the ability to lead, direct others, guide, and motivate; furthermore, to be a strong leader one must have certain leadership skills such as being good at dealing with conflict, make high-quality decisions, be an good communicator, good at conflict resolution, be results orientated, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and traits that will empower others. Nurse leaders play a significant role in healthcare due to the rapid changes and the many challenges that they have to encounter. Often in the healthcare organization, some describe leadership role as a powerful relationship; however, part of the leadership process is the ability to use power, not control, to influence the direction of the group and the vision (Grossman & Valgia, 2008, p. 47). There have been many theories that were suggested to describe the origin of conflict. In social psychology, the theories place an emphasis on political, social and material inequality of a group in society. In this context, conflict occurs due to power differentials and class conflict. Karl Marx is known as the father of the social conflict theory and there have been many social movements on the basis of his principles (Hintjens, 2014). Types of conflict theory include feminism, which aims to create equal rights between the different genders in society (Hintjens, 2014). In addition, others include poststructural theory, critical theory, post-colonial theory, world systems theory and the queer theory.
